Heritage Tour to Magnificent Bhaja -Karla Caves
The stunning Chaitya at Karla caves[/caption]The Buddhist caves at Bhaja -Karla are a extremely important sites that date back to 2nd century BCE. There are Viharas (residential cells for the monks) and Chaityas (prayer halls). They are located just 3 km away from the old Pune Mumbai Highway amidst green surroundings. The chaityagriha at Karla is considered as one of the largest Buddhist chaitya halls in India created during Satavahana’s rule. Karla is one of the best examples of rock-cut architecture and art. Some of its 2000 year-old wooden beams are still alive.
